The next version of Windows 95 (code-named "Memphis") and Windows NT 5.0 will provide enhanced Image Color Management (ICM) capability by including LinoType-Hell AG's Color Management Module (CMM). Image Color Management is an operating system application programming interface (API) that is used to ensure that colors will be accurately portrayed no matter what peripheral is used. This feature has been available on the Macintosh for about 10 years and it is cited by graphics artists as one reason they remain faithful to Apple's systems.
Microsoft ICM 2.0 will improve color reliability and consistency across peripherals and will increase Windows compatibility with publishing industry standards, according to the company. LinoType-Hell's CMM is the default CMM in ICM 2.0; It is the CMM that transforms color information across various peripheral devices.
