IE 4.0 bug downplayed

Microsoft is saying that an "obscure" bug found recently in Internet Explorer 4.0 will be fixed soon but that users have nothing to fear. The bug, which was discussed recently in WinInfo, can potentially allow a malicious Web site to run or delete files on the user's machine. No one has actually been affected yet, Microsoft says.

"It's a pretty obscure bug," said IE group product manager Dave Fester. "We needed to take a little bit of time to determine exactly what it was before we announced the fix."

The fix will be posted by Wednesday at the Microsoft Security Web site
