HiT Software Contributes XML Relational Mapping to Open Source

HiT Software announced plans to join the Eclipse Foundation, a not-for-profit industry organization committed to developing and promoting the open-source Eclipse universal development platform. HiT Software is contributing its XML/Relational Mapping (XRM) Model to the Eclipse Data Tools Platform (DTP) project. The DTP project includes extensible frameworks and exemplary tools, enabling a diverse set of plug-in offerings specific to particular data-centric technologies and supported by the DTP ecosystem.

Given the growing presence and importance of XML, the need for a comprehensive mapping between XML and relational structures is vital in data-centric application development. While there are alternatives such as XSLT, no general solution meets all of the needs of XRM. As the XML-to-RDB market leader over the last 6 years, HiT Software has continuously improved its XRM model by listening to customer requirements. HiT Software is releasing this XRM model to the public domain as a standard for anyone attempting to tackle the complex problem of mapping relational databases because it provides all the necessary data definitions to fully characterize mapping elements and configurations.

HiT Software also encourages vendors within the Eclipse community to build their own tools from this framework. Sybase PowerDesigner v11.1, the market-leading enterprise modeling tool, is already embracing this model directly from their design modeling tool to ease the process of mapping and integrating XML with RDBMS. This way, customers optimize their bottom-line by focusing their application development on the business logic rather than tedious data parsing.
