Autostart the Windows SMTP Service

Q: I enabled the SMTP service in Windows; however, I have to manually start it every time I reboot my machine. Why?

A: By default, the SMTP service is configured with a manual startup type. To make SMTP autostart after a reboot, perform the following steps:

  1. Start Services.msc.
  2. Scroll down to Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) and select Properties.
  3. Change the Startup type to Automatic on the General tab; click OK.

SMTP will now autostart after reboot.
