A: The configuration levels for Windows Server 2012 (formerly code-named Windows Server 8) are configured by adding and removing components from the User Interfaces and Infrastructure feature. With Windows Server 2012, that can be performed locally or remotely using Server Manager.
The Add Roles and Features and Remove Roles and Features Manage actions are used. Select the desired machine, then under Features, add or remove the various components such as Graphical Management Tools, and Infrastructure and Server Graphical Shell, as required.
Because Server Graphical Shell requires Graphical Management Tools and Infrastructure, if the management tools are removed, the shell will also be removed. (See screen shot below.)
