When Windows Server 2012 was released in October 2012, I was hauled out to Redmond to help introduce the new operating system. During my talks with the Windows Server 2012 product managers (you can still watch those HERE) I learned a lot about the thought and process that went into the new server release. Windows Server 2012 was the beginning of what Microsoft now coins the "Cloud OS," and now with R2 released we're starting to see more and more of their vision take shape.
R2 represents significant advancements to even the initial Windows Server 2012 release, enough to warrant an entire 215 pages just cover the new, technical aspects. Microsoft Press has released, as a free eBook, Introducing Windows Server 2012 R2 Technical Overview. This latest release digs into the changes and additions that are represented in the R2 refresh.
