Technology research and consulting organization Yankee Group will rename its Internet Computing Strategies Planning Service to Application Infrastructure and Software Platforms. The service's major areas of coverage are now organized into four groups. Platforms and Standards includes databases; OSs, middleware and messaging; Enterprise JavaBean (EJB), Distributed COM (DCOM), and Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA); XML; Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP); Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI); and other emerging standards, as well as directory services, application architectures, peer-to-peer services, and Web services. Design, Development, and Deployment includes front-end design tools, Unified Modeling Language (UML), development "studios," corporate portal tools, Web and application servers, streaming infrastructure, and content-management systems. Performance Tools includes systems and applications monitoring and management, performance enhancement, content-delivery products and services, and testing tools. Finally, Value-Added Technologies includes personalization, digital identity and wallets, and knowledge management.
