WinInfo Short Takes: Week of September 17 - 14 Sep 2001

Because of the recent tragedy, I feel that it would be inappropriate to make light of events that occurred in the computer industry this week. On this national day of prayer and remembrance, however, we can make a difference. It all starts with relief efforts for the victims, the thousands of family members, friends, and other loved ones who were lost in these senseless acts of violence. Here are some ways you can help. Traffic on the following Web sites has been heavy, so if you have problems getting through, try again.

  • Give blood
Contact the Red Cross and find out where you can give blood locally.
Red Cross Web site or 1-800-GIVE-LIFE
  • Make a cash donation
Both Amazon.com and Yahoo! have set up Web-based ways in which we can give cash donations toward Red Cross disaster relief.
    Amazon.com
    Yahoo!
  • Make a technology donation
(Thanks to Barb, who tipped me off about this item.) TechTV reported that the American Red Cross in New York is looking for PCs, software, and other computer-related equipment. For contact information and a full list of what's needed, refer to the Tech TV Web site.

Thank you, and again, God bless.

Paul
