Windows NT 5.0 will be a multi-user operating system like UNIX

Microsoft announced on Monday a deal with Citrix, makers of WinFrame, to add multi-user, remote access capabilities to Windows NT Server. These features will be integrated in Windows NT 5.0 and an add-on for Windows NT 4.0 will be made available this year. The reason for such a switch, which makes NT more like UNIX? The Windows terminal.

"It's now feasible to support very low-cost devices attached to a Windows NT Server," Paul Maritz, Microsoft's group vice president of applications and systems, said.

The Windows terminal is an extremely thin client that will not host any operating system, data, or user interface. All of the applications and their user interfaces will be run from the Server. This represents a major change in thinking for Microsoft
