Windows 8.1 Update 2 Might Show Up in August through Windows Update

Happy monthly patchers should be aware that Windows 8.1 Update 2 is rumored to release during Patch Tuesday in August. Though we've known for months that a second update would be provided for Windows 8.1, there's been very little information delivered on what it might include, other than new features and fixes. Let's hope as the release date gets closer we'll hear more about it.

It's also not clear if Update 2 will be cumulative, meaning that if users don't already have Update 1 installed (released in April), they can just skip the first update and the second one will suffice, bringing all the features and fixes needed to get Windows 8.1 into a supported state. If you remember, Microsoft took the stance that Update 1 is a requirement for Windows 8.1 users to continue to receive security updates, essentially ending support for Windows 8.1 in April.

Microsoft was adamant that the first update to Windows 8.1 was called simply, "update," so with a second one releasing, I'm not sure what they'll call the new one. "Update, Update?"

Anyway, even if Update 2 doesn't release in August, it's at least worthy to be prepared, because it's clearly coming sometime soon.
