In a Windows 2000 domain, how can I configure the site name information known to member servers and workstations?

A. Win2K introduced the concept of sites, which let you group machines that reside in similar TCP subnets. When a Win2K or later machine logs on, the system stores the site name in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters in the subkey named DynamicSiteName. The domain controller (DC) updates this name every 300 seconds (5 minutes); however, you can perform the following steps to modify the update timeframe:

1. Start regedit.exe.
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters.
3. From the Edit menu, select New, DWORD value.
4. Enter a name of SiteNameTimeout and press Enter.
5. Double-click the new value and set it to the number of seconds.
6. Click OK.

To override the assigned site name, you can add a String value named SiteName in the Netlogon\Parameters subkey. If you use this approach, the system will never use the SiteNameTimeout value.
