This Week in "Windows 8.1 Field Guide": March 16, 2014

The book hits the final lap towards 1.0

Well, it's almost done now. After a few weeks of copy-editing and a ton of additional changes this past week, Windows 8.1 Field Guide is nearing the 1.0 milestone. It's going to happen this month for sure.

Please buy the book. Remember, we're charging just $2 for Windows 8.1 Field Guide, and you can contribute in other ways as well. Check out my earlier post Buy Windows 8.1 Book! or the Windows 8.1 Book web site for the details.

This week's updates (with the newest posts at the top) include:

From SkyDrive to OneDrive

Here's an updated version of the main book document that includes a pretty major change: All of the relevant SkyDrive references—and, as important, screenshots—have been changed to OneDrive.

First round of consistency fixes

Here's an updated version of the main book document. This includes a number of consistency fixes that I added to a to-do list during the copy edit.

Book 0.82 and what's next

This update includes a copy-edited version of the NETWORKING chapter. Which, as you may know, is the final full chapter in the book. This brings up the issue of what's next.

Book 0.81

This update includes a copy-edited version of the USERS AND SECURITY chapter. No major changes. One more chapter to copy-edit...

Book 0.80

This update includes a copy-edited version of the BACKUP AND RECOVERY chapter. No major changes, just some typos.

Book 0.79

This update includes a copy-edited version of the BING APPS chapter. I added a few short sections and a few screenshots, and resized some other images, so the page count went up a bit too.

Book 0.78

This update includes a copy-edited version of the GAMES chapter, plus a few typo fixes from readers. Nothing major to report, though I'll note in passing that the Xbox Games app is an embarrassment and needs to be updated, stat.

Book 0.77

This update includes copy-edited versions of the MUSIC and VIDEO chapters. Nothing major to report. A bit over 400 pages in on this pass.
