Secunia Launches New Security Advisories Service

Danish company Secunia has launched a new mailing list, called Secunia Security Advisories, which consolidates security vulnerability information from a variety of sources. The company is making its advisories available through email, its Web site, and an affiliate network, where anyone can download a text file in Really Simple Syndicate (RSS ) format for inclusion on their own Web site. Secunia said their new service is intended as direct competition to Symantec, who purchased SecurityFocus. Along with the purchase Symantec gained control over SecurityFocus' vulnerability database as well as the BugTraq mailing list. Secunia isn't pleased with the way Symantec maintains those two information resources and decided to launch a competing information source.
