Q: Can I run Windows 8 virtual machines (VMs) on Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V?

A: Yes; however, a hotfix should be installed on the Hyper-V server to avoid any possible issues. The hotfix is available at Microsoft's support site. Without the hotfix, the following could occur:

  • The Windows Developer Preview or Windows Server Developer Preview VM stops responding.
  • The Windows Server 2008 R2 host computer displays a stop error message and restarts automatically. This behavior brings down all other running VMs together with the host computer.
