New version of SMS in beta

Thanks to Johann Vilhjalmsson for the tip: Microsoft has begun beta testing Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0. The latest version of SMS will support the Common Information Model (CIM), add increased scalability, and be integrated with Active Directory in Windows NT 5.0. Because Windows NT 5.0 has been delayed, SMS 2.0 will appear first.

"SMS 2.0 is an ideal migration tool \[for NT 5.0\] because of its sophisticated software distribution capabilities," said Kevin Kean a group product manager at Microsoft.

SMS will present itself as a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in. It is expected to ship in Q3 1998
