Microsoft posts yet another post-SP3 hotfix

Microsoft has posted yet another hotfix that addresses a problem introduced by Service Pack 3 for Windows NT 4.0. Dubbed simply the "Java bug," this bug rears its ugly head when using Internet Explorer 3.02 to browse a Java- enabled Web site. If the system's color depth is set to "True Color" (32-bit) in Display Properties, IE 3.02 stops responding.

Microsoft attributes the problem to the updated Graphics Device Interface (GDI) introduced by Service Pack 3. If you're using 32-bit "True Color" in NT, you can apply this hotfix. Otherwise, don't bother: it doesn't affect any versions of Netscape or IE, or IE 3.02 on systems with other color depths
