Microsoft to port Java VM to Windows CE and UNIX by the end of the year

Microsoft announced at TechEd this week that it will be porting its Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to the top five flavors of UNIX and Windows CE "by the end of the year." The names of the five chosen UNIXs were not disclosed. Microsoft also doubts that Sun will ship Microsoft's version of the JVM, even if it is better than Sun's. The new version of the JVM will be included with Internet Explorer 4.0 for UNIX, which is due by the end of the year as well, according to Microsoft's James Plamondon.

Weird rumor: Microsoft may port the JVM to OS/2, MVS, and AS/40 as well
