Bowing to customer feedback, Microsoft has extended the deadline for companies to make the transition to the Software Assurance (SA) upgrade program under the new Licensing 6.0 scheme. The original deadline was October 1, but Microsoft had already extended that to February 2002. The latest deadline for enrolling in the software upgrade plan is July 31, 2002. In an even bigger concession, Microsoft announced that it will consider Office 2000 a "current" version of the software for enrollment purposes. Previously, the SA plan required companies to upgrade to Office XP.
