Microsoft announces Zero Administration Windows Kit for Windows 95

A month after announcing the first Zero Administration Windows (ZAW) kit for Windows NT, Microsoft yesterday announced a similar kit for Windows 95 at the WinHEC conference in San Francisco. The kit allows system administrators to control end-user machines through a centralized configuration, preventing them from installing applications, deleting files, and determining what applications they can run. Microsoft said that the NT and 95 ZAW kits would be available for download in the next 90 days. Along with the NetPC and OnNow technologies, ZAW is a key component of Microsoft's initiative to cut the ownership cost of PCs. Memphis, the next version of Windows 95, and NT 5.0 will include ZAW when they are released in 1998
