Microsoft and Intel release NT 5.0 system requirements

Microsoft and Intel have released the first version of their Hardware Design Guide for Windows NT 5.0, which spells out NT Server system requirements for hardware vendors. Though the release of Windows NT 5.0 is still several months away, the companies wanted to give hardware vendors a chance to start development.

Windows NT Server 5.0 will require at least a 200 MHz Pentium Pro or comparable processor with at least 256K Level 2 cache (a large cache is recommended) and 64 MB of RAM. The companies recommend that systems be capable of upgrading to at least 512 MB of RAM. NT 5.0 systems must also support the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI).

No requirements for NT Workstation 5.0 were released, though a Pentium 200 with 32 MB of RAM is the expected minimum.
