Microsoft and Cirrus Logic demo Memphis with new Intel graphics

Microsoft and Cirrus Logic Wednesday demonstrated Intel's latest graphics technology, the AGP chipset, running on "Memphis" (the code-name for Windows 97). Intel will be promoting their Pentium II processor (code- named "Klamath") as the CPU of choice for the AGP chipset, which features high-performance 3D graphics chips and dedicated system memory. Windows 97 and Windows NT 5.0 will fully support the AGP chipset with extensions to the graphics APIs. Yesterday's demonstration was the first live showing of the technology on a future version of Windows.

AGP, the Pentium II, and Windows 97 are expected later this year
