Macintosh IE 4.0 will not have Active Desktop

When Internet Explorer 4.0 for the Macintosh ships in December, it will not included the much-maligned Active Desktop feature that Windows users have. Microsoft believes that the Active Desktop feature makes IE 4.0 an extension of the operating system, and they will work with Apple to bring Web integration features to the Mac OS. It just won't be there for the IE 4 release in December.

"The hope is we can work together and make the integration possible. The ultimate goal for the product is to give the Mac users the most functionality possible," a Microsoft representative said Thursday.

Apple hasn't commented on IE 4.0 or the Web integration plan
