US District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly on Friday set the schedule for Microsoft's continuing court case, which will resume in March so that the remaining states allied against the company can decide on sanctions. The next courtroom appearance for the 9 US states and Microsoft will occur on March 4. In the meantime, Kollar-Kotelly told the states to prepare a list of sanctions to be handed down to the company, which was found guilty of breaking US antitrust laws.
Additionally, the judge ordered that the US Department of Justice (DOJ), which, along with 9 other states, settled its case with Microsoft last week, prepare a study of the proposed deal and its impact on the technology industry. This is due Thursday. Summaries of the agreement and the study will be published in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the San Jose Mercury News, as well as the Federal Register. Concerned US citizens have 60 days to write the DOJ and complain about the settlement if desired.
In the meantime, Microsoft will likely try and settle with each state individually, by offering further concessions.
