JSI Tip 6382. When you use the NET VIEW command to view a different computer in your domain you receive 'An extended error has occurred'?

When you use the net view \\<ComputerName> command, where <ComputerName> is a different computer in your domain, you receive:

An extended error has occurred.

This problem can be result of a time-synchronization issue, even though time-synchronization issues normally generate an Access Denied error.

If you know you don't have a connectivity issue, make sure that the time zone is correct. Then issue the following command on the other computer:

net time \\ServerName /set /yes.
