In tip 2345, I detailed some reasons why a Windows 2000 client may have trouble joining a Windows NT 4.0 domain.

If your Windows NT 4.0 WINS server has a Scope ID configured in TCP/IP protocol Properties, your Windows 2000 client may fail to join the domain. Try turning the Scope ID off.
