Shipment of Intel's next generation CPU, code-named "Merced," has slipped to 1999. Merced is a 64-bit microprocessor that incorporates both CISC and RISC technologies.
Originally expected in 1998, Merced has been held back for marketing, not technical reasons: Intel is planning on releasing several interim CPUs before Merced and doesn't want the product introductions to overlap
