Intel set to release 600 MHz Pentium III

Intel Corporation is set to release faster new versions of its Pentium III and Celeron microprocessors on Monday, the company revealed this week. And, of course, the prices of its existing stable of processors will be lowered as well.

Heading the list is a 600 MHz Pentium III, which will retail for about $670. Another newcomer, the 500 MHz Celeron, will debut at about $170.

Other Celeron, Pentium II, and Pentium III processors will come cheaper beginning next week. For example, a 466 Celeron, now available for $150, will cost about $115. Major PC makers, such as Compaq, Dell, and IBM, are expected to announce systems using the new microprocessors on Monday
