Apple's popular iMac was unable to grab the number one spot in August, falling behind Hewlett Packard's Pavilion 6330 in sales during the month it was launched. According to a survey by PC Data, the HP represented 8.6% of all computers sold in August, while the iMac represented 7.1%. Apple was counting on the iMac coming in first so it could use that data in public relations.
"The iMac is far and away the best selling Mac we've seen since we've been tracking this information," said PC Data's Steve Baker. "It's definitely a good result for them. There was a lot of pent-up demand, so they've been able to satisfy demand pretty quickly."
