Fix for Windows Server Technical Preview Extension Patch

Fix for Windows Server Technical Preview Extension Patch

Yesterday, we let you know about the patch Microsoft promised to deliver to extend the expiration date for Windows Server Technical Preview (Windows Server 2016). Most of you that installed the update found that the patch didn't really work. It installed, it just didn't reset the countdown timer.

Microsoft eventually caught wind of the problem and later in the afternoon updated the original Download Center page to reflect an extra step to get the update to work properly.

The inserted text says this…

If after installing the package you still see the expiration notification and the evaluation end date is not set to 10/1/2015, run:

slmgr /ato command

You can get the patch here: Windows Server Technical Preview and Hyper-V Server Technical Preview Expiration extension

A new preview Build is due sometime in May, and will most likely be announced for release during Microsoft's first-ever Ignite conference.
