Microsoft Corporation's Exchange Server spanked Lotus Notes for the second straight quarter, outselling its arch-rival by 500,000 seats. According to Electronic Mail and Messaging Systems, Exchange Server gained 3.6 million new seats this quarter while Lotus sold 3.1 million new Notes licenses. In the previous quarter, which was the first time Exchange outsold Notes, Microsoft sold 350,000 more new seats than Lotus. In a related development, a survey of Fortune 50 companies reveals that Exchange Server is now used as the single standardized Email system by 52% of those surveyed, while Notes is used exclusively at only 24% of those companies
