Thanks to Osvaldo Doederlein for the tip: The excellent System Internals Web site has a free utility for Windows NT that defragments your paging files and system Registry hives while the system boots. Normal Windows NT defraggers, such as Diskeeper, are unable to defrag these files because they are opened for exclusive access to the operating system. SysInternals' PageDefrag gets around this, however, eliminating one of the biggest performance problems in NT. Check it out at the SysInternals Web site
