EMC Realigns Company with Software Focus

EMC has announced a new operational structure to help the company focus more of its attention on software development. The restructuring aligns the company into three business groups: Storage Platforms Operations, Open Software Operations, and Customer Operations.

The Storage Platforms Operations unit is now in charge of EMC's storage platforms, such as its Symmetrix and CLARiiON networked-storage systems and EMC Celerra Network Attached Storage (NAS) systems. David Donatelli, a 14-year EMC veteran, will lead the unit.

The Open Software Operations group is now responsible for EMC's increased development of storage software that manages EMC hardware and hardware from other vendors. Erez Ofer, who has been with EMC for 9 years, will be in charge of the group, which includes the products from EMC's recently announced AutoIS strategy.

EMC's sales operation, now called the Customer Operations group, will support and distribute EMC's products worldwide. Frank Hauck, an 11-year EMC veteran, will continue to manage the group.

The new organizational structure puts EMC in a good position to take advantage of the emerging need for software solutions that help companies manage multivendor storage infrastructures.
