Q: I am using SkyDrive and noticed it is using the Office Upload feature to synchronize Office documents and not native SkyDrive functionality--why? and can I change this?
A: The Office Upload Center has great functionality related to synchronizing Office documents in a very granular fashion. It allows multiple people to edit the same document and sync in the various changes. The SkyDrive synchronization doesn't have this level of granularity, and syncing becomes a "last writer wins" scenario.
If you don't have multiple people editing documents, or if you just want to use the SkyDrive synchronization instead, it's possible to tell SkyDrive not to use Office Upload Center for Office documents. I do not recommend doing this unless you have a specific reason to not use the Office Upload Center functionality.
In the Notification Tray, right-click the SkyDrive icon (the clouds) and select Settings.
In the Settings tab, deselect Use Office to sync files faster and work on files with other people at the same time.
- Click OK.
