Compaq reorgs, Digital CEO out

With the largest computer industry merger complete, Compaq has begun the long, painful process of integrating Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) into the company. The first step, figuring out the management structure, leaves former Digital CEO Robert Palmer out in the cold; Palmer will be retiring "with mixed emotions" following the massive merger. In the new management scheme, only three of the twelve people that report directly to Compaq CEO Eckhard Pfeiffer hail from Digital.
