Rumors circulated today that Compaq is considering purchasing Gateway 2000,causing the Sioux City, South Dakota company's stock to soar today. Compaq is currently sitting on US$3.5 billion is cash reserves and is interested ingetting into the direct-sales PC market. No one is commenting, but Micronrecently admitted that Compaq had talked to it about a possible buyout aswell
