Apple: Rhapsody will not run on Intel

Frustrated by recent news reports, Apple announced today that Rhapsody, the next generation Mac OS that will be based on NeXT technology will not run on the Intel processor: it is being developed for PowerPC only. The problem lies with porting the Mac-compatiblity layer to the Intel CPUs.

At least initially. Gil Amelio was recently quoted as saying that he would be a fool not to at least look into Intel portability. I guess we'll have to wait and see, but given the PowerPC's recent problems, don't be surprised to see Rhapsody running on a PC near you
