The next wave of additions to the over 400 million active users of Windows 10 will come from business and enterprise users as companies determine their plans to migrate to Windows 10 from their currently deployed operating system.
For most of those organizations that is Windows 7 which is still under extended life cycle support until 14 January 2020 - just a little more than three years from now.
Planning a migration to a new operating system can be a painstaking process and requires a lot of research and possible financial commitment to prepare for it across the board. The earlier you get started on that process the easier it is to manage it and obligate future dollars to the effort.
I have shared a lot of these resources here at IT Pro: Windows and today I want to send another one your way for consideration.
The Windows 10 for Business Onboarding Kit (access is free but does require registration) provides information in three areas for your deployment planning:
- Deploying Windows 10: Automating deployment by using System Center Configuration Manager, by Andre Della Monica, Alessandro Cesarini, Russ Rimmerman, and Victor Silveira. This authoritative reference book explains how to deploy Windows 10 through a number of both attended and unattended automated methods.
- Windows 10 Readiness Tools: Use this handy bundle of resources to distribute to employees during your Windows 10 deployment to help them get up and running. This kit will help your employees make a smooth and successful transition to Windows 10, so your organization can start enjoying the benefits of Windows 10 right away.
- The Modern Workplace Watchdog eBook: It’s time stop sacrificing flexibility and efficiency in the name of security. Learn how to protect the information, systems, and people vital to your business with Windows 10, the most secure Windows ever.
These documents and others from Microsoft can help you plan a smooth migration to Windows 10 and still leave time to spare before extended support expires in early 2020.
