Microsoft Preps the Backend for Windows Update for Business

Microsoft Preps the Backend for Windows Update for Business

With new business features planned for Windows 10 next month in the next major update, Microsoft is preparing the way for businesses to support them.

Released today, a new hotfix is available to enable support for Windows 10 as a Service on servers running Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2012 and providing WSUS capabilities for the company.

The hotfix also serves to finally correct an issue where WSUS thinks Windows 10 computers are actually Windows Vista.

EXTRA: What Windows Update for Business is, and what it is not

There is one prerequisite, Windows Server 2012 R2 must have the April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) already applied. I’m sure most organizations running this server version have the update installed, but it’s worth noting.

The hotfix, and applicable information, is available from here: Update to support Windows as a service on Windows 10
