GPO Settings for Windows Update for Business

GPO Settings for Windows Update for Business

If you missed the story a couple months ago, Windows Update for Business is not an actual product, but a set of management features built into Windows 10. With the November update for Windows 10, more of these features are now exposed.

Using Group Policy, these settings can be managed centrally in businesses. To find them, open the Group Policy Editor and navigate to:

Computer Configuration –> Administrative Templates –> Windows Components –> Windows Update

At this location you’ll be presented with a new Defer Upgrades and Updates that contains the following options when enabled:

  1. With this policy enabled, upgrades can be deferred for up to eight months.
  2. Updates can be delayed for up to one month.
  3. If problems are identified with the current updates you can used the Pause Upgrades and Updates option. This will delay updates and upgrades until the next monthly update or upgrade becomes available.
