Xceed to Embrace Microsoft’s Silverlight

Xceed to Embrace Microsoft s Silverlight

Xceed plans to launch Xceed Upload for Silverlight, its first offering in support of Microsoft s new Silverlight technology.

Slated for release in May or June 2008, Xceed Upload for Silverlight will provide programmers with full-featured HTTP upload capabilities for C# and VB.NET development using Silverlight. Xceed Upload for Silverlight is designed for client software that needs to upload single files, groups of files, or strings to Web servers. In batch mode, file transfer is deferred, letting the application gather data from different sources, such as form controls, performing the actual transfer when it is ready. Uploads are asynchronous for optimum performance, so the client software remains responsive throughout the operation.

The HTTP requests produced by the component use the standard MIME format for uploading data through the multipart/form-data content type. Events allow an application to set important fields in the HTTP request and to monitor the upload operation. The GZip or Deflate compression method can be used and the compression level set. Also, Base64 binary encoding is available to support Web browsers that do not allow the upload of non-ASCII data.

Xceed Upload for Silverlight includes comprehensive documentation that fully integrates into Visual Studio, as well as C#, VB.NET, and JavaScript sample applications. It supports Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 (except IA-64), and runs in Internet Explorer 7 and 6, Firefox 2 and 1.5, and Safari (Mac OS 10.4.8+ only). Some OS/browser combinations are not supported by Silverlight.

Xceed Upload for Silverlight will initially target Silverlight 2 Beta 1. Subsequent versions will be supported by Xceed Upload for Silverlight soon after their release. Once Xceed Upload for Silverlight is released, a fully functional free trial version of this 100%-managed component will be available for download from Xceed s Web site.
