Q. Is it true that Windows Virtual PC for Windows 7 no longer requires hardware-assisted virtualization (HAV)?

A. Windows Virtual PC originally required HAV support on the processor. This requirement has been removed with update KB977206, which can be downloaded for x64 systems and for x86 systems. Once this is installed, Windows Virtual PC will no longer require HAV support on the processor. This opens up Windows Virtual PC to older hardware that you may wish to migrate to Windows 7 while taking advantage of XP Mode (which requires Windows Virtual PC).
