Q: How are XenDesktop's administrative roles designed to separate duties?

A: Citrix XenDesktop 5.5 has five administrative roles natively available that can be assigned to IT personnel: full, machine, assignment, read-only, and Help desk. These five roles are designed to facilitate the separation of duties between individuals managing a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment.

Full administrators are given complete authority over the entire XenDesktop site, whereas read-only administrators can view but not change settings. Machine administrators are responsible for catalogs and are tasked with building virtual desktops. Assignment administrators have the responsibility of consuming desktops in a Catalog, packaging them into Desktop Groups, and assigning those Desktop Groups to users. Finally, Help desk administrators are charged with day-to-day activities that include user assistance and individual virtual machine (VM) problem resolution.
