Q: Can I export my virtual machine running in Amazon's EC2 environment to my local virtualization environment?

A: In May 2012, Amazon added the ability to export virtual machines (VMs) from Amazon EC2 out to VMware ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V, or Citrix Xen format, which can then be used on-premises. The full announcement can be seen at the Amazon Web Services blog and is achieved using the ec2-create-instance-export-task command.

See "Getting Started with Windows Server on Amazon Web Services" and my FAQ "Q. How can I bulk export every virtual machine (VM) on a Hyper-V host?"
