Q. Can I connect to a RemoteFX-enabled Windows 7 Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) virtual machine (VM) from a client that isn't RemoteFX capable?

A. To take advantage of all of RemoteFX's capabilities, both the Windows 7 VM and the RDP client must support RemoteFX, which provides RemoteFX USB redirection, virtual CPU support, and enhanced codecs for transmission of data.

If you connect from a non-RemoteFX client, you simply get a non-RemoteFX experience, but the connection will still work. This is the same experience you get if you connect from a RemoteFX client and don't select the LAN experience—RemoteFX is also disabled if you aren't configured for a LAN.
