Oracle to Acquire Virtual Iron

In its second big purchase in a few weeks, Oracle announced today it would acquire server virtualization company Virtual Iron.

Oracle announced today that it will acquire Virtual Iron, makers of server virtualization products. Financial details weren't disclosed.

The deal is set to be finalized this summer. The announcement said that by combining virtualization technology from the two companies, customers would see "better capacity utilization, streamlined virtual server configuration, and improved visibility and control of their enterprise software."

Oracle made another major acquisition in April, when it announced it was acquiring Sun Microsystems.

The announcement said the companies would continue to do business separately until the completion of the acquisition. Virtual Iron has offered a free single-server edition of its product, but as of Wednesday morning, that edition is not listed on Virtual Iron's product page.
