Hyper-V VM Spanning Memory Status

Hyper-V VM Spanning Memory Status

Q: I have a virtual machine (VM) that has a memory status of "spanning"-- what does this mean?

A: Normally Hyper-V will try and allocate memory to VMs from the same NUMA nodes as those being used for the processor cores. If this isn't possible and some memory needs to be allocated from other NUMA nodes, then the memory status is set to Spanning.
