Oracle’s Hyperion Acquisition: First of Many Consolidations? by Brian Moran, [email protected]

On March 1, Oracle acquired Hyperion Solutions in a deal valued at approximately $3.3 billion. The deal is expected to close in April 2007, assuming all the regulatory hurdles are surmounted. In response, we might expect other large vendors to pursue an aggressive acquisitions strategy, leading to even more consolidation in the business intelligence (BI) and applications market. What effect might this move have on the applications market in general, and particularly on the ERP and performance-management spaces?

Compare the Schema and Data Between Two SQL Server Databases
TulaSoft announced SQL Examiner Suite 1.2, software that includes SQL Data Examiner 1.2 and SQL Examiner 1.6, which when used together, let you compare and synchronize the schema and data between two SQL Server 2005, 2000, or 7.0 databases. SQL Examiner Suite's newest feature lets you use backups as a source database when two databases are compared. Q&A: Building Dynamic IN Lists
by Microsoft’s SQL Server Development Team

Q. When I execute the query

SELECT TOP 10 * FROM claim
    WHERE status IN ('paid, 'denied')

I get 10 rows. However, when I try to use a variable to specify the IN list, as in the following query, I receive no rows:

DECLARE @status varchar(20)
    SET @status='paid' +','+'denied'
    PRINT @status
SELECT TOP 10 * FROM claim
    WHERE status IN (@status)

Why doesn't the second query return the same results as the first one?
