Troubleshooter: Using Unicode Names with Exchange 2000

We want to use full Unicode names for our Active Directory (AD) accounts. Can Exchange 2000 Server properly address these names?

AD is completely Unicode-aware, so by extension, Exchange 2000 is as well. However, not all components that Exchange 2000 uses can accommodate Unicode characters. For example, you can't use Unicode characters in server or administrative group names, and the alias attribute for user accounts can't use the full set of Unicode characters (although the username can). Microsoft IIS requires that usernames presented to it for authentication use the US-ASCII character set, which rules out using Unicode in usernames, even though AD and Exchange 2000 support it. Remote systems also might not correctly handle mail from or to users on your system with Unicode names.
