If you create a Desktop folder on your Windows 2000 or Windows XP desktop, Windows Explorer will exhibit some of the following strange behaviors:
- If you expand the folder by pressing the plus sign (+), the sub-folders are NOT displayed.
- The Desktop folder appears multiple times.
- Some folder names are garbled.
- An error message similar to the following may be generated:
<Drive_Letter:>\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Desktop\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.
Microsoft is aware of the problem.
If you have a desktop folder named Desktop, open a CMD prompt and rename it:
cd "%userprofile%\desktop"
rename Desktop MyDesktop
