HP to Provide Web Application Security

HP will acquire privately held SPI Dynamics, maker and provider of Web application security assessment software and services.

The number of attacks against Web applications is on the rise, and HP sees the market potential of helping to secure applications through all phases of development and deployment.

"Today, HP Software provides solutions that ensure that business applications run well. Now with the addition of SPI Dynamics, we can make sure it is also secure," said Jonathan Rende, VP of products at HP.

SPI Dynamic provides a range of products that help Web application development, quality assurance, deployment, operations management, and auditing. The company's QAInspect product already integrates into HP's Quality Center software to provide Web application security testing.

"The combination of HP and SPI Dynamics will allow us to scale and provide our customers with the industry's most comprehensive application quality, performance and security assessment solutions," said Brian Cohen, CEO at SPI Dynamics. "For more than five years we have partnered with HP, so I am very pleased to be joining forces to better serve our customers and partners."

Based in Atlanta, SPI Dynamics currently has approximately 140 employees and gained its 1,000th customer in March of this year. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. After completion of the acquisition, SPI Dynamics will be integrated into HP's Technology Solutions Group.
